Aga Khan Museum to Open to Public on September 18th
Museum to showcase the cultural and scientific contributions of Muslim civilizations to world heritage
August 18, 2014 - The Aga Khan Museum announced today that it will open its doors to the public as of September 18, 2014. Prior to this date, an official opening ceremony for the Museum as well as the Ismaili Centre Toronto will take place.
The Museum and Ismaili Centre constitute a major initiative by Mawlana Hazar Imam and are intended to play a critical role in fostering knowledge and understanding both within Muslim societies and between these societies and other cultures.
The Aga Khan Museum is dedicated to showcasing the artistic, intellectual and scientific contributions that Muslim civilizations have made to world heritage. Jamati members of all ages are encouraged to visit the Aga Khan Museum once it opens to share in this wonderful educational and cultural resource.
As Mawlana Hazar Imam remarked in 2010 at the Foundation Ceremony for these institutions, “Together, these three projects will symbolise the harmonious integration of the spiritual, the artistic and the natural worlds — in keeping with the holistic ideal which is an intimate part of Islamic tradition. At the same time they will also express a profound commitment to inter-cultural engagement, and international cooperation.”
We are privileged to host these global institutions in Canada, and recognize that their establishment represents Hazar Imam’s confidence in the Canadian Jamat and longstanding relationship with this country, which has helped to ensure our permanent presence here.
Further updates on the opening ceremony will be provided as they become available, through the portal, the electronic Al Akhbar, and Jamati announcements.
