Team Canada Updates:  The adventure is about to begin
In under a week, approximately 330 members of Team Canada will depart for Dubai to join hundreds of athletes from around the world to compete in the Jubilee Games.  For many, this will be an adventure of a lifetime with many firsts: perhaps the first time in Dubai; the first time meeting Ismaili brothers and sisters from other countries; the first time competing in an international tournament. Hundreds of stories will unfold and be told.

Spectator Information and Reference Guide
A reference guide for spectators can be found here. The guide provides information on currency, weather, taxis, hotels, and how to obtain tickets for various signature events.

Information on travel documentation and visas, and links to various government and travel websites, can be found on Team Canada’s website. Other information such as Dubai’s culture and etiquette, code of conduct, attractions and time zones and currency can also be found on TheIsmaili.org. Spectators are urged to read this information prior to travelling.

Guided Tours of the Ismaili Centre, Dubai
The Ismail Centre, Dubai will host tours for visitors from July 21 to 29, 2016. To schedule your tour please click here. All visitors, regardless of age, are required to register in order to visit the Ismaili Centre. Family members and partners of all faiths are welcome.

• If you have not received an e-mail containing a Unique Identification Code, please send your child's full name and date of birth to prairies.bui@iicanada.org. We will send you the Unique Identification Code for your child and a link where you can register and select an offering.
• If you are having difficulty using the Unique Identification Code you received in an e-mail, it is likely that our database contains the incorrect birthdate for your child. Please e-mail prairies.bui@iicanada.org and we will send you the incorrect birthdate that is in our system. Use this incorrect birthdate to enter the system, and once you've logged in, please correct the birthdate.
• If you are enrolling your child in the pre-primary program, please fill out and sign the Registration/Waiver form and Offering Selection form and return them to prairies.bui@iicanada.org or to a BUI volunteer seated in the Jamatkhana foyer every Friday from July 22nd to August 12th.
• If your child is a new student, please fill out and sign the Registration/Waiver form and Offering Selection form and return to prairies.bui@iicanada.org or to a BUI volunteer seated in the Jamatkhana foyer every Friday from July 22nd to August 12th.

Pre-primary classes are parented, and as such, will require a parent or primary caregiver to attend with the child. Information and registration will take place as follows:

Please note that those that are 5 or turning 5 by February 28, 2017, and are new to the Calgary BUI System can register at this time and will also need to register in Jamatkhana.

Pre-primary BUI registration for children who are four years old or will be four by February 28th, 2017, will be starting on Friday, July 15th. This year, we are pleased to offer additional locations and timings. Research tells us that the leading predictors of poverty for families in Canada are physical and mental health issues, disability, lack of education, the death of a spouse, job loss, and divorce or family breakup.

In an effort to address these and other challenges, the Council for Canada has established a national Quality of Life office. The mandate of the office is to help lift community families out of poverty by:

• Integrating the delivery of services from various Jamati boards and portfolios, and tailoring them to meet the needs of individual families.
• Using Jamatkhana-based teams, with Mukhi-Kamadia and Mukhiani-Kamadiani as champions, to help connect with and support families in need.
• Adopting an approach that engages members of the community to help each other.
• Providing support in a confidential manner that respects the dignity of all and recognizes that difficult material or social circumstances can strike any of us, at any time.

This Jamatkhana-based service-delivery model is now operational in over half the Jamatkhanas in Canada, with the remainder anticipated to transition in the coming months.

We anticipate a need for various types of support and will be seeking the assistance of community members in the coming weeks. We ask that you consider extending your support in whatever way possible so that we can work together in eliminating poverty. Such requests may include calls for volunteers in various capacities, as well as subject matter experts in relevant areas including social work, mental health, education, and early childhood development, amongst others.

We also encourage members of the community to continue building their understanding of the complex causes and effective ways of supporting those living in challenging circumstances, using resources such as these.

We extend our gratitude to the thousands of volunteers across the country who have been working towards this vision over many years, contributing their time and expertise to improving our well-being.

We believe we have the skills and resources to address one of the greatest challenges that we face today. Let us make the next two years a historical milestone as we work, in lockstep with many other such initiatives in Canada, towards eliminating persistent poverty.

A secular facility, the Delegation offers a centre for building relationships, enabling quiet diplomacy and disseminating knowledge and information while reflecting the wide-ranging humanistic and humanitarian agenda of the Aga Khan Development Network.

The Visitor Program provides the public with an opportunity to explore the building through regularly scheduled open house hours – select Wednesday evenings from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and select Saturday afternoons from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Due to the nature of events held at the Delegation, the schedule is subject to change. Please check www.akfc.ca in advance to ensure that the tour will take place on the day of your visit. Thank you for understanding.

Please plan on approximately 30 minutes for your visit. Tours will be held every half hour Reservations are not required during the open house days stated below. However, if you are unable to come during our open-house times, a self-guided tour can be arranged, although there will be limited access to some areas of the building. Truck drivers operate light and heavy trucks, including multi-trailer combinations to transport goods and materials over urban, interurban, provincial and international routes. Individuals (or professionals) in this occupation must have excellent driving skills, good judgement, and an ability to remain focused for extended periods of time to react quickly in emergency situations. Employment opportunities are available with trucking, transportation and manufacturing companies or you could be self-employed.

Truck Drivers

• Get special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes
• Load, secure and unload trailers and ensure safety and security of cargo
• Do pre-trip inspections of vehicle systems and equipment such as tires, lights and brakes
• Record cargo information, distance travelled, fuel consumption and other information in log book or on on-board computer
• Do emergency roadside repairs

• Class 3 commercial license to operate vehicles with more than two axles
