Taufiq Karmali is one of the most respected artists in the Ismaili community, with hundreds of recorded recitals of ginans, geets, qasida, and kalaams.  He is known for beautiful expressions of love for the divine, setting poetry to music with his trademark smooth and refined voice.  He personally composes and arranges the music for his recitals.

Originally from Muscat, Oman, Taufiq is a self-taught musician and was greatly inspired by his father Hasan Karamali’s rustic and most devout recitations of ginans.  Since the age of seven, Taufiq has taught himself that music is a means of searching for the Divine  through devotional lyrics, this music becomes a form of meditation.

During the time of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Silver Jubilee, Taufiq became known throughout the worldwide Jamat for his song “Mawla Jaldi Jaldi Aavo”, which was featured on the album “Silver Melodies”.  For years after the sweet melody of the song has remained in the minds of many in the Jamat.  He has had the honour of singing in the presence of the Imam five times, including in the "Mystical Journey" performance in Paris during the Golden Jubilee.

Taufiq has recorded and performed with many renowned artists in the South Asian community, including legendary Sufi singer Abida Parveen, as well as Sanam Marvi and Kedar Pandit.  His voice continues to touch audiences to this day, and as recent as this week released Tere Nur Se Mawla, and in December as part of the Salgirah Song Series released Mawla Teraa Shukr, both for The Ismaili Sounds on Ismaili TV.
