Democracy in Action: The Roles of Elected Officials and Running for Office

Description

Would you like to become more engaged and involved in your community, city, or country? Do you want to learn about what the responsibilities of your elected officials are at each of the three levels of government? Have you ever considered running for elected office? Do you have an interest in politics or public service?

Next week, join us for a lively and engaging conversation with three remarkably distinguished panelists, each of whom has devoted their life to public service and active citizenry - Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary, Arif Virani, Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice, and Rajan Sawhney, Alberta Minister of Community and Social Services. Our special guests will discuss why they chose to run for elected office and what it involved, what motivated them to pursue their dreams of public service, what challenges they faced, and what advice they would have for others who have followed their careers or may wish to someday follow in their footsteps. This event will be moderated by Aliya Mohamed, Director of Public Affairs at TransLink.

All those interested in becoming more active and engaged citizens - whether you are young or young at heart - are encouraged to participate and be inspired by the life-long passion and commitment of our esteemed speakers.

The session will include a Question and Answer segment.
