Friday Night Reflections: Fact vs Fiction - The Role of Media in Democracy

Description

On the heels of a US election, we ask: what is the role of the media in upholding democracy? In providing thoughtful analysis without being directive? In holding public figures accountable?

This week, join special guest host Mayor Naheed Nenshi in a wide-ranging conversation with journalists Ali Velshi and Farah Nasser and strategist Zain Velji. Our panellists will reflect on their recent election experiences, their inside views on the challenges of staying objective, fair and accurate, as well as their perspectives on the role that citizens and the government can play in supporting a free press and strong democratic institutions.

  • Watch the broadcast on iiCanada.live in English or in Farsi

  • A second broadcast will be shown at 8:30 pm Pacific | 9:30 pm Mountain

  • A photo gallery highlighting Ismailis at the forefront of media will be shown 15 minutes prior to the broadcast
