Ten Thousand Chais: Fireside Chat with Shamila Ilyasi

Description

Please join us for an informal and intimate fireside chat with Shamila Ilyasi where we will discuss her career journey and take your questions.

This event will be held bilingually in English and French.

------

Shamila Ilyasi was born in Kabul Afghanistan in the late 80s. Her family left Afghanistan in 1992 and through a short journey via Uzbekistan ended up in Moscow, Russia, until early 1997. When she came to Canada in January 1997, she spoke no other language other than Farsi.

Even when she couldn’t read or write in any language, her love for story-making and books was part of her. She grew up wishing to become an author, but never truly believing that she could do it one day. It was during Covid that she decided to give her dream a chance. From writing the very first word of that book to having it published in May 2022, it was the best journey of her life.

Outside of writing (she is currently working on her 2nd novel) and reading, she also works full-time as a Training, Recruiting, and Onboarding Manager at Bell Canada. She is also the Member for Ismaili Volunteers at the Q&M Council since 2019.
