Friday Night Reflections: Combatting Hatred and Intolerance - A Collective Responsibility

Description

The remains of 215 Indigenous children found at a former residential school in BC, and the taking of four Muslim lives on a quiet evening in Ontario, reminded the nation of the long road ahead in coming to terms with bigotry and intolerance.

This evening, journalist Farah Nasser joins The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, 26th Governor General of Canada, to reflect on these difficult times, acknowledge the suffering, explore the roots of racism and sectarianism, and point the way to a more just and peaceful future. President Ameerally Kassim-Lakha, in a special message recorded this week, reminds us of the pluralist roots of our faith, the importance of attending to mental health, and the call to advance greater understanding and compassion.

Clinical psychologist Alwaeza Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee offers insights into the impact of these events on our psyches, citing the importance of processing emotions and speaking to our children about these calamities in ways that are healing and supportive.
