Skate Girls of Kabul: A Behind-the-Scenes Look with photographer Jessica Fulford-Dobson

Tuesday, September 5, 7-8 pm
Ismaili Centre Toronto, Social Hall
Join us on Tuesday, September 5 for the North American premier of a month-long outdoor photography installation featuring British photographer Jessica Fulford-Dobson. This premiere features portraits of the fierce and feisty young girls who are participants of Skateistan, a non-profit organization empowering youth and children through skateboarding and education in Afghanistan, Cambodia, and South Africa.
The exhibit will be available for viewing from September 5- October 8, 2017 in the Aga Khan Park.
About the Artist
Jessica Fulford-Dobson is a freelance London based portrait photographer. Upon learning about Skateistan, Jessica was inspired to visit Kabul in 2012 where she earned the trust of young Afghan female skateboarders and captured some powerful images of confident women. In November 2014, out of 4,000 submissions, Jessica’s portrait of Skate Girl won 2nd prize at The National Portrait Gallery’s Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize Award where it was exhibited for the first time. In April 2015, Jessica had her first solo exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
