Tax clinics will be held for families and individuals requiring assistance filing their 2023 income taxes. The tax clinics will be held in the Franklin Jamatkhana Social Hallevery Sunday from March 17 to April 14 from 10am - 2pm. No registration is required.
Jamati members will have the opportunity to sit down with a volunteer who can assist with income tax preparation at no charge. By filing annual income taxes, low-income individuals and families may gain access to financial supports including GST and child tax benefits.
To qualify for the tax clinics, individuals must meet the following criteria:
Household income:
1 person: Less than $35,000
2 or more people: Less than $45,000 (plus $2,500 for each additional dependant)
Simple tax situations consisting of employment income, pension income, benefits, etc.
Volunteers will not be able to prepare tax returns for individuals who:
Are self-employed or have business income
Have significant real estate holdings or rental income
Have large amounts of savings or investments
Are deceased
Have interest income over $1,000
Became bankrupt in the year
Have received large insurance or lawsuit payouts
Please bring your 2022 Notice of Assessment if you filed your taxes last year.

In-person and virtual tax clinic sessions are back for the 2023 Canada tax filing season. Facilitated through the Canada Revenue Agency's Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, individuals with a modest income and a simple tax situation, can get assistance on their tax returns. The in-person tax clinic session will be held at Pickering on Sunday, April 7. The last day to file your tax return is April 30.
