Nurture Nature Now: Beginning with Sustainable Living

November 26, 2021 | Canada

Sustainable living is a lifestyle that attempts to reduce our impact on the environment in ways that are sustainable for both the Earth and for each individual personally. The goal is to reduce our environmental impact that works effectively for each of us and our families.

There are a number of ways to live more sustainably, including:

  • eating more plant-based meals and reducing our consumption of meat
  • buying and cooking only what we need
  • making our homes more energy efficient
  • reducing our water usage inside and outside our homes
  • thinking more about what we can share with others, as well as reusing items / repurposing them in our homes
  • being more conscious of our buying practices and waste generation
  • buying locally to support our community and reduce the distance that our products need to travel
  • travelling more sustainably, such as walking, riding a bicycle, or carpooling when possible
  • thinking about more sustainable vacationing options

Sustainable living positively impacts climate change and the environment since we reduce our resource usage, the fossil fuels we burn, and the greenhouse gas emissions we generate. It can also improve our personal well-being and the feeling of living purposefully.

Over the coming weeks, we will share more ideas and strategies on how to live sustainably and how to “green” our Jamatkhanas.

We challenge you to start brainstorming additional methods on your own, including ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste, and create healthier spaces to build a stronger community and world.
