Access to consistent, good quality English language teaching is variable in many areas around the globe, particularly in remote localities, Proficiency in the English language is essential and facilitates access to quality education, opens up employment opportunities with tremendous growth potential.
The English Language Connections (ELC) program was initiated as a pilot program to support 100 teachers working with the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), Ismaili Tariqah and Religious Education Board (ITREB) and Parwaz (an ECD program) in Afghanistan.
The ELC program enables educators from Canada to collaborate with and support program teams in Afghanistan. Learning is delivered both asynchronously and synchronously, where participants and educators interact virtually. With the success of the pilot program, the Council for Canada is working closely with two other Middle Eastern countries to kick-off the ELC program in August.
Recruitment of volunteers is now underway for qualified teaching assistants to join the Virtual ELC program team. Training related to the curriculum and digital learning platforms will be provided. Only successful candidates will be contacted.
