In the Aga Khan Academies Vision statement, Mawlana Hazar Imam states the following:
“What students know is therefore no longer the most important measure of an education. The true test is the ability of students and graduates to engage with what they do not know and to work out a solution. They must also be able to reach conclusions that constitute the basis for informed judgements. The ability to make judgements that are grounded in solid information and employ careful analysis, should be one of the most important goals for any educational endeavour. As students develop this capability, they can begin to grapple with the most important and difficult step: to learn to place such judgements in an ethical framework.”
We must ask ourselves, how and where will our students realize the goals that Mawlana Hazar Imam has set out for our learners? What do our students need in their toolkits to engage with what they do not know? The answer is unique to every student. Through a combination of their secular schooling and extra-curricular activities, we can be confident that they are advancing in a positive direction, but how will they acquire the ‘it’ factor? In other words, what will inspire them to strive further than they can imagine? What will broaden their perspectives to be more inquisitive and pluralistic? What will encourage them to lead an ethical life rooted in our faith? There is no single answer, but undoubtedly, BUI is a springboard that will nurture the ‘it’ factor within them.
Registration is set to begin for the 2023-24 Bait-ul Ilm (BUI) academic year, starting Saturday, May 13. There are a range of offerings that will meet every student’s needs. Students can expect a year filled with hands-on exploration of our faith, grappling with the challenging questions of the day, and building relationships that will last a lifetime. Furthermore, BUI will offer a newly designed Recitation & Practices program that includes lessons Ginan & Qasida and Rites & Practices, amongst others (offerings vary by centre).
Whether you are a current student, a returning student, or new to BUI altogether, we welcome you to join the BUI community and strive for the ‘it’ that will help you unleash your best self.
