Avoid Non-Essential Travel Outside of Canada - Updated Guidelines
The Government of Canada continues to advise travellers to avoid all non-essential travel outside of Canada.
New emergency measures have been put in place for those traveling to Canada, in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. Canadians who must travel abroad for essential reasons should consider how they will meet the new requirements for returning to Canada before they depart.
Starting on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, air travellers 5 years of age or older travelling to Canada are required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test taken, at their own expense, no more than 72 hours before the aircraft's initial scheduled departure time. Travellers who cannot provide proof of a negative test, or who test positive, will not be allowed to board with limited exceptions. As a reminder, travellers who receive a negative test result and are authorized to enter Canada must still complete the full, mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Before departing Canada, consider the new requirements and make plans for the possibility of needing to extend your stay outside of the country if you cannot return.
In addition, many foreign governments continue to implement strict travel restrictions and international transportation options continue to be less available. These restrictions may make it difficult for you to return to Canada, or require you to remain abroad for an indeterminate period.
