Summer Camps Canada

After a long wait, we are excited to launch Summer Camps Canada! Camp Discovery, Camp Mosaic, and Al-Ummah Canada hope to host in-person residential camps within the months of June to August.

While Summer Camps experienced a brief pause from all in-person activities due to COVID-19, the emergence of a virtual camp, ODYSSEY, continued the spirit of connection within the Canadian Ismaili community through a virtual platform and will do so again this year.

As COVID testing and vaccinations become more accessible, Summer Camps will be reintroduced in June and will be physically located in different parts of Canada. Ismaili youth will experience the One Jamat ethos in person by interacting with Ismaili peers in their region. They will also have the opportunity to see various AKDN projects in action and learn about local communities.

Sara Virani, camp director for virtual camps 2021 and a past participant of Camp Mosaic and Discovery mentioned: “Summer camps allow our next generation the chance to learn about themselves, each other, and our community in a safe, fun, and truly exciting way. First-time participants come into the camp thinking they will play some games for a couple of weeks and then go back to their summer. Little do they know, they will come out of camp with memories, friendships, and a connection to our community to last a lifetime.”

Maleeha Panjwani, a counselor and operations director from Camp Discovery added: “Summer camps are an amazing way to make friends from all around the world. Camps allow you to learn while making new connections and learning about other people’s perspectives. Connection is what makes camps so so special! Even if you are miles apart, you always know that you have so many connections in every pocket of the world and that you always have a friend wherever life decides to take you!”

Summer Camps continue to aim to keep the safety of the participants as the first priority. The organizing team will continue to work with local health authorities to carefully monitor the environment to keep it safe and secure. Any information concerning changes to the programme plans, vaccination protocols, or information updates will be posted on the Summer Camps website.
