Let's Create Dot Art - Stippling

Dots are considered the most basic building block of art. Dot painting has long been an art form, found as patterns on artefacts, as sand paintings, mehndi designs, and other body art. Over time, it evolved into a variety of styles and applications, like stippling in the 1500s for engraving, and pointillism painting in Paris in the late 1880s.

These workshops are designed to demystify the technique of dot painting, whether you are a beginner who is learning a new skill, a creative hobbyist or an artist.

The technique of stippling is the process of creating individual dots of various sizes to create a recognizable image. The dots vary in proximity, being closer together to create darkness and further apart to create lightness, which illustrates overall form and dimension. In this tutorial, Aska Jungbari will demonstrate the basics of stippling, including the different ranges of shades you can achieve, the types of materials you will need, and how to hold your pen correctly to get the perfect dot. She will use the example of reproducing a succulent strawberry with black dots alone.
