This week, join Anisa Tejpar and Jobina Bardai, as they discuss Anisa's inspiring professional dance journey. Anisa speaks about her various dance endeavours, from stage performance to choreographing for movies and even video games, while building a family and being a mother.
She inspires us with her learnings as a dancer from a multi-faith background, help us understand what's involved in working with choreographers, share what it takes to create a viable career, and impart valuable advice for upcoming dancers and artists. The audience is also be treated to a special performance by Anisa.
Anisa Tejpar, one of Canada’s top dance artists, is a Dora Mavor Moore Award winner and three-time nominee. Originally from Toronto, Anisa has danced and toured with The National Ballet of Canada and the Toronto Dance Theatre. She has performed works by top Canadian and international choreographers, including Matjash Mrozewski, John Neumeier, and others. She has also appeared in TV and films including Steppin’Up: Save the Last Dance 2, as well as in print ads and commercials including those for Bell and Loblaws.
Anisa is currently the Co-Artistic Director of the dance entertainment firm, Hit & Run Dance Productions Inc., for which she has choreographed works for several groups including The Rolling Stones and Warner Bros., feature films and video games. She is also on the Board of Directors of Canada's National Ballet School.
Jobina Bardai is a professional contemporary dance artist. Originally from Vancouver, she has trained at Arts Umbrella and the Ottawa’s School of Dance. She has lived, choreographed and performed in Montreal, Toronto, London (UK), Sydney, New York and Berlin. While in Berlin, she started a number of interdisciplinary arts collectives, including one of female artists performing in public spaces. Jobina has been a consultant to the performing arts programme at the Aga Khan Museum, and is currently Chair of the Board of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists for Western Canada and part of the young patron’s development committee for Dance house in Vancouver.
