Why is it Important to Spend Time with Your Family | The Ismaili Canada

Why is it important to spend time with your family?

Time is a scarce commodity today. Leisure time is even scarcer. The diverging interests held by various family members and the independent schedules and lifestyles that we have chosen, have resulted in a situation where families do not have enough time together. As a result, we all end up living in our own world with very little time for each other and even less time to relax with the family.

Moments of family leisure, besides becoming fond memories that will sustain us in our later years also help maintain our sanity and perspective. Leisure activities as a family provide us with the opportunity to improve the understanding between spouses, and between parent and child, thereby enhancing our relationships. In the process, family bonds are strengthened, individuals earn more respect for each other, and a discussion of current issues often acts as a catalyst for the exchange of ideas between family members.

Instead of becoming a couch potato in front of television, take some time out and spend it with the family. Create an environment that allows the family to interact and encourage discussion. You have to be proactive, resourceful, and spontaneous in order to incorporate “contact time” into your daily life.

How do you spend quality time with your family?

  1. Spend holidays and vacations together.
  2. Work on homework together
  3. Use times when the family is together more effectively
  4. Play games together

The key to building stronger family harmony requires group interaction, and this interaction will help the family face challenges together. If everyone all commits to working towards a happy and united family, by spending time interacting and connecting with your family these relationships can be developed and fostered. Committing to spending one hour each week with your family is a great way to stay connected with your family and build better relationships.
