Past Projects | The Ismaili Canada

In 2008, we had over 340 volunteers participate in conjunction with organizations to plant trees, pull ivy, and clean up city parks. 2008’s partner organizations included:

On July 5, 2009, we had over 200 volunteers help remove graffiti from city streets, prepare meals for the homeless, clean up city parks, and assist at an early childcare learning centre. 2009′s partner organizations inlcuded:

In February of 2010, CIVIC volunteers helped welcome the world to Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games at one of downtown Vancouver’s busiest locations. Wearing unique green jackets, nearly 200 youth volunteers acted as “Olympic Ambassadors”, providing information to tourists and locals at the Vancouver City Center Skytrain Station.

In August of 2010, over 100 youth helped build homes for those in need, removed graffiti from city streets, cleared harmful litter/debris from Richmond’s shoreline and helped enhance local parks through invasive species removal and plant management. August 2010′s partner organizations included:

In December of 2010, CIVIC volunteers took part in activities aimed to help alleviate poverty and give a hand to those in need during the holiday season. Over 75 CIVIC youth helped build low income housing, sort non perishable food at the food bank and provide over 1000 meals for those in need on the downtown east side. December 2010′s partner organizations included:

In March of 2011, CIVC Volunteers took part in projects during their spring break focused on the quality of life of the aged and poverty, providing youth with a chance to give a hand to those in need and in the process foster intergenerational work. In addition, this created awareness of some of the issues facing the senior population. CIVIC youth, mainly under the age of 15, provided over 900 meals, assisted in classes aimed at improving the quality of life of older adults through computer literacy and assisted in the group programs and engaged in a number of activities with seniors at the Ismaili Senior Centre (ISC).

In July and August of 2011, CIVIC Volunteers took part in a variety of different projects. Over 100 youth repaved a Jamatkhana courtyard, cleaned up shorelines, ensured produce got to a food bank, and helped enhance a community by cleaning up graffiti. Summer 2011′s partners included:

In May 2012, CIVIC Volunteers took part in The Miles for Mental Health Run & Walk presented by Douglas College, which is annual event that raises awareness for mental health and reduces the stigma of mental illness. The event capped off national Mental Health Week, providing Canadians with many opportunities to find out more about the importance of mental health and how to achieve it in our everyday lives. For this event, CIVIC partnered with:

In March 2013, CIVIC BC served meals on two occasions at The Door is Open Soup Kitchen on the downtown East side. The event was in partnership with BUI Encoutners.

In May 2013, as part of a campaign to educate youth about the democratic process and encourage youth to go out and vote, CIVIC BC held a dinner the day of the provincial election to watch the election results come in live. The event was held at James Street Cafe in Burnaby.

In June 2013, CIVIC members went to New Brighton Beach to participant in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. Locals in the area were grateful that we removed garbage including styrofoam, tires and bottles from the beach in the area.

In August 2013, CIVIC participants collaborated with the City of Port Coquitlam in an anti-graffiti and mural painting event to edify the streets of the city.

In December 2013, CIVIC teamed up with the BUI Encounters to make and transport 500 hampers to homeless shelters in Downtown and Langley. 150 students from the BUI program packed the hampers with dry goods and personal messages.
