The Al-Azhar Mini-Course is a 5-day interactive course for grades 11 and 12 students at Downtown Jamatkhana. The program aims to foster a creative learning experience for students.  It will include discussion and debates, guest speakers, field trips and social activities. The “Faith and Practice” module from the IIS will frame the exploration of current events, questions of ultimate significance, and the principles of faith: tawhid, nubuwwa and imama.  The concepts of ibadat, zahir and batin will also be discussed. Photography will be used as a medium of exploration and expression of our learning over the week.

Diving Deeply into Art

We are thrilled to let you know that on Saturday, February 25th, Senior Exhibitions Manager Sarah Beam-Borg, from the Aga Khan Museum, will be leading a workshop for all Grades 11 and 12 students. 

The session will engage the students on how to look at the various layers of stories that emerge through art. This workshop will be part of the Al-Azhar classes at Westwinds Jamatkhana. 

This term our students are using inspirations from the Aga Khan Museum and local artists to develop their own expressions around Faith and Practice in Islamic Traditions. 

For students currently not attending, we hope you are able to come and join us. The workshop will begin at 2:30PM and will run for one hour.

Through the generosity of the Jamat, the Jamati Services Fund (JSF) helps programs such as this.

•    If you have not received an e-mail containing a Unique Identification Code please send your child's full name and date of birth to prairies.bui@iicanada.org. We will send you the Unique Identification Code for your child and a link where you can register and select an offering.
•    If you are having difficulty using the Unique Identification Code you received in an e-mail it is likely that our database contains an incorrect birth date for your child. Please e-mail prairies.bui@iicanada.org and we will send you the information that is in our system. You will then be able to use this information to enter the system. Once you have entered the system you can update the birth date information. 
•    If you are planning on enrolling your child in the pre-primary program, please fill out and sign a Registration/Waiver form and Offering Selection form (attached) and return to prairiesecd@gmail.com 
•    If your child is a new student please fill out and sign a Registration/Waiver form and Offering Selection form (attached) and return to prairies.bui@iicanada.org

Event Description:

Grade 11 and 12 students are invited to put their Design Thinking skills to the test! ITREB Ontario presents a 12-hour Hackathon starting at 5 pm on Saturday, December 19th. Teams of 5 will receive a design challenge that will last the entire night. At the end of the challenge, teams will present their ideas to a panel of expert judges. This exciting event will take place at Meadowvale Jamatkhana.  For more information please contact your local secondary BUI team or email ontario.bui@iicanada.org

Aspirations - Weekend Retreat for Grade 11 and 12 Students

All grade 11 and 12 youth are invited to the Al-Azhar Weekend Aspirations Retreat to be held from Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11, 2015.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet new people, engage with your faith in a meaningful, interactive way and create memorable experiences. This retreat is open to both registered and non-registered students!  Keep an eye out for registration details.  You don’t want to miss out!

All Grade 11 & 12 students are invited to a weekend of community building and learning from May 8-10 at Kinark Outdoor Centre in Minden, Ontario. During this two-day retreat, we will explore Media, Representation & Identity, and work with social media as a tool for thinking about issues facing people living in urban spaces in the past and today.

A special graduation ceremony for Grade 12 students will take place at the end of the weekend.
