Welcome

The Ismaili Seniors' Masters Games will be held from Friday, September 2 through Saturday, October 5, 2019, highlighting the prominence of healthy lifestyle, physical activity, competition and celebration through sports in our Jamat. Jamati members and multi-faith family members aged 55 and above will participate in events such as volleyball, badminton, squash, cricket, bridge and table tennis. In addition to participating in competitive sports, jamati members and multi-faith family members will have an opportunity to explore and develop skills in clinics. Clinics will be held for golf, pickleball, table tennis and badminton  All members are encouraged to participate and attend.

Registration

  • Registration for the Ismaili Seniors’ Masters Game (ISMG) is now open! All Jamati and multi-faith family members aged 55 and above are eligible to participate.
  • Registration desks will be open on Fridays and festival days at all Jamatkhanas starting Friday, August 9.
  • Sports included are Cricket, Traditional Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Snooker, Bridge, Pickleball, Golf, Pitch-and-Putt, Squash, Walking race.
  • Cost of registration is $10 for the first sport and $5 for any additional sport (exceptions are golf which is $80 and Pitch-and-Putt which is $13).
  • Cost of skill clinics are $5. Skills Clinics are a great opportunity for members to explore and develop skills in a new sporting area. This year, clinics will be offered for: Golf, Pickleball, Table Tennis and Badminton.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When are the games?

  • Sports will be played in early September and from Friday, September 27 through Saturday, October 5, 2019.
  • Introductory clinics are planned for Golf, Pickle Ball, Cricket, Table tennis & Badminton. Dates & times are still to be confirmed.

Who can participate?

  • Anyone over the age of 55, including multi-faith family members (eg. spouses, parents, children). All levels of abilities are warmly encouraged.
  • Clinics are intended for new players or beginner players as an introduction to the sport.

 How will I compete against very experienced, competitive and/or younger players?

  • Participants will compete in their respective age category pending registration. Typically, for racquet sports age categories are 55 to 64, 65 to 74 & 75+.  Athletes can choose to play in lower-age categories (but they cannot play in a higher-age category).

 How much do the games cost?

  • $10 for the first sport (exceptions: Golf will be an additional $80, and Pitch-&-Putt will be $13)
  • $5 per any additional sports
  • $5 per clinics

 Which sports will be played throughout the ISMG?

  • In early September there will be: Golf 18-holes, Pitch-&-putt, Cricket, Tennis and Snooker.
  • From September 27 through October 5, there will be: Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Squash, Walking races, Pickleball, and Bridge.

What is the schedule of events?

  • Please refer to “Sports Schedule" section

For team sports, do we need to register with a team?

  • No, please register as an individual and you will be assigned to a team

 For which sports will clinics be offered?

  • Golf, Pickleball, Table Tennis, Badminton

 When and where will the clinics be offered?

Do I need to buy t-shirts?

  • Athletes should have a t-shirt in their Jamatkhana colour. If athletes have t-shirt from previous years, they are welcome to use them. Otherwise t-shirt will be available for purchase.
  • If you are participating in a clinic and/or coming to observe, we encourage you to wear a t-shirt that is similar in colour to that of your respective Jamatkhana team (points will be awarded).
  • If you wish to purchase an ISMG t-shirt or an additional shirt for someone else, please discuss with registration desk.

 When can I register and when is the registration deadline?

  • Registration will take place on Fridays in all Jamatkhanas starting from Friday, August 2

Is lunch included in the cost of registration?

  • No

When will I know exactly when I am scheduled to play?

  • Schedule information will be made available a week prior to the event.

Will equipment be provided?

  • You are required to bring your own equipment to compete in a sport.
  • Equipment will be provided at clinics.

Will transportation be provided?

  • Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide transportation. Participants are required to make their own arrangements to/from sporting and clinic venues.

When are the opening and closing ceremonies?

  • Opening ceremonies will be held on Friday, September 27 at Richmond Jamatkhana.
  • Closing ceremonies will be held on Saturday, October 5 at Headquarters Jamatkhana.

What is the “President’s Cup”? How can I earn points for my Jamatkhana team?

  • President’s Cup is awarded to the Jamatkhana that accumulates the most points during the games based on participation, performance, spirit, etc.
  • You can earn points by participating in sports, clinics and/or supporting your Jamatkhana in various ways.

What type of information will be available on the iiCanada app?

  • We are planning to post game schedules, clinic schedules, rules, game scores and team standings, and President’s Cup standings.

Imamat Day Celebrations

Imamat Day celebrations, including Jaman and a celebratory program, will be held at the PNE on Saturday, July 20, 2019. The program will include a talent showcase, arts and crafts, a photobooth, performances by the Ismaili Marching Band, and finally a Dandia Raas program with the band #OneJamat.

Due to a prior event, the celebration facilities will open at 7:30pm.

Multi-Faith Family Members are warmly welcome to join in all celebrations.

THEME:

The theme for this year's celebration will focus on the "Spirit of Volunteerism" - expressing what volunteering means to each of us, as well as recognizing the incredible volunteers we have in our community.

ITINERARY:

7:30pm - Jaman Service & Outdoor Activities Begin

7:45pm - Talent Showcase in the Coliseum

7:45pm - Outdoor Ismaili Marching Band performance

9:00pm - Entertainment program & Dandia Raas

9:30pm - Shuttle Service from venue to parking lots to commence

Jaman will be served in the Agrodome, as well as in Rollerland for families with young children and seniors. The Jamat is also invited to make their way to the Coliseum with their dinner to enjoy the talent showcase taking place on the Coliseum Main Stage from 7:45pm. The program will include several independent artists showcasing dance, singing, musical instrument performances, spoken word, and much more.


PARKING & DROP OFF

Parking passes will be available for sale at all Jamatkhana Ticket Centres at a discounted rate starting Friday, July 5, 2019. Pre-purchasing parking passes significantly aids in swift entry.

Once you have parked your vehicle, please pick up a parking tag from volunteers indicating the lot number.

DROP OFF AREA:

ONLY vehicles with a valid SPARC permit, HandyDART vehicles, and taxis will be allowed to access the drop off area located next to the Coliseum and just before GATE 6 on Renfrew Street.

SHUTTLE SERVICE:

Shuttle service from the parking lot to the venue will be available from Lots 6, 7, 8, and 9. Please follow directions of the volunteers when parking and boarding the shuttle.  Return shuttle services will commence at 9:30 pm from the lower level of the Coliseum, at the exit doors across the North & South canteens.

WHEELCHAIR AND MOBILITY AIDS:

Jamati members requiring a wheelchair or mobility aids are required to bring their own. Designated areas for wheelchairs have been arranged on the lower and upper levels of the Coliseum.  Members of the Jamat requiring mobility assistance are encouraged to use the Mobility Drop Off near Gate 6 off of Renfrew Street.


DINNER:

Jaman will be served in the Agrodome starting at approximately 7:30pm for the general Jamat. Special arrangements have been made in Rollerland for families with young children and seniors. Families with young children are encouraged to partake in arts and craft activities outside the Agrodome.


ACTIVITIES & ENTERTAINMENT

OUTDOOR:

KIDZ ZONE:

Kids activities, featuring games and interactive arts & crafts, will be available outside on the upper Coliseum concourse between 7:30pm and 8:30pm. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

CHALK MURAL:

A collaborative chalk-art mural for all members of the Jamat to participate in, located on the upper Coliseum concourse.  Be a part of creating a beautiful mural that celebrates our theme of "Spirit of Volunteerism".

ISMAILI MARCHING BAND:

There will be an exciting outdoor musical performance by our Ismaili Marching Band outside the Agrodome commencing at 7:45pm.

INDOOR:

PERFORMING ART SHOWCASE:

Bring your dinner into the Coliseum and enjoy an incredible talent showcase on the main stage featuring an array artists from our community! The program will include several independent artists showcasing dance, singing, musical instrument performances, spoken word, and much more.

CAPTURING THE SPIRIT OF VOLUNTEERISM BOOTH:

A digital media booth for the Jamat to record well wishes and express what “Volunteerism” means to them will be available on the upper level of the Coliseum between 7:30pm and 9:00pm.

ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM & DANDIA RAAS:

The Dandia Raas program will commence at 9pm and feature the band #OneJamat.

LITERATURE CENTRE:

A literature centre will be open on the lower level of the Coliseum and will offer the latest publications from the IIS, as well as various other interesting books, tasbihs, CDs, and DVDs for purchase.

PHOTO BOOTH:

Jamati Members are encouraged to take home memories of the evening with a family picture at the photo boot located on the lower level of the Coliseum.


FIRST AID & SAFETY

FIRST AID:

A First Aid station will be setup on the lower level of the Coliseum. Satellite stations will also be set up at Agrodome and Rollerland. First Aid volunteers can be identified by their red vests and armbands and will be available throughout the facility to provide assistance.

MEDICATION:

Jamati members who require medication are reminded to bring their medication with them, especially items such as asthma inhalers and EpiPen auto-injectors for severe allergic reactions.

FAMILY REUNIFICATION PLAN:

Since the Coliseum is a large facility, we recommend the Jamat make arrangements to meet family members at designated locations in case they become separated.

LOST CHILDREN:

Parents who become separated from their children should approach the nearest volunteer or visit the nearest Information Booth, where a volunteer will help reunite parents with their children. Jamati members who find a lost child are requested to take him or her to the nearest Information Booth.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION:

In the event of a building evacuation, calmly proceed with your family to the nearest building exit where you will be guided by the volunteers to the designated assembly areas. Please follow the directions of the volunteers and PNE staff. Do not re-enter the building under any circumstances, unless explicitly given permission by PNE staff. Please refer to the diagrams below for the locations of the emergency exits and assembly areas.


INFO BOOTHS:

Members of the Jamat who have any questions or require assistance can visit any of the Information Booths. There will be four clearly marked booths: one at the lower level of the Coliseum, one at the upper level of the Coliseum, one at the lower level of the Agrodome, and one at Rollerland. Volunteers will be available throughout the facilities to provide assistance.

Power Restored at Downtown Jamatkhana

April 26 update - power is on at Downtown Jamatkhana and all Jamati ceremonies will take place as planned.

April 25 - power is out at Vancouver Downtown Jamatkhana and in the surrounding area. There are a number of road closures making accessibility to this Jamatkhana difficult this evening.

Please exercise personal discretion for your comfort and safety before deciding to attend Downtown Jamatkhana tonight.

Burnaby Lake Multipurpose Centre Groundbreaking

On Sunday, April 14, a milestone groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Burnaby Lake Multipurpose Centre. Jamati representatives performed a soil-turning to commemorate the occasion. 

Adjoining the Burnaby Lake Jamatkhana, the multipurpose centre will be a vibrant hub providing spaces for an array of social, educational and cultural activities. Designed as an inclusive and welcoming environment, the centre will enable Jamati members from diverse backgrounds to gather for celebrations, programs, community events and civic engagement.

We offer congratulations to the Jamat on this occasion and look forward to having a multifunctional space that unites and uplifts for many years to come.
