Temporary Suspension of Jamatkhana Ceremonies in Ontario

In response to the province-wide stay-at-home order announced today by the Government of Ontario, ceremonies at all Jamatkhanas that are currently open under the jurisdiction of the Council for Ontario will be temporarily suspended after evening ceremonies on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, until further notice.

The following Jamatkhanas will be impacted:

•Barrie

•Belleville

•Brantford

•Guelph

•Halton

•Hamilton

•Kitchener

•London

•Niagara Falls

•Oshawa

•Pickering

•Richmond Hill

•St. Thomas

•Sudbury

•Unionville

•Windsor

Please note that this suspension applies to all morning, evening and weekend ceremonies - with no exceptions.

We will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with our public health professionals, to keep the Jamat informed of any new developments.

Re-opening of Ontario Jamatkhanas

The Council for Ontario is pleased to advise the Jamat of the planned re-opening of Ontario Jamatkhanas, using a cautious and deliberate approach.

Barrie Jamatkhana is scheduled to re-open on Friday, March 19, 2021, and St. Thomas Jamatkhana is scheduled to re-open on Sunday, March 21, 2021.

The re-opening dates for other Ontario Jamatkhanas will be communicated once confirmed. 

Jamatkhana capacity upon re-opening will be limited and will be adjusted as circumstances permit.

We continue to monitor the public health situation with our health professionals. Preparations including volunteer training are underway to mitigate risk and to safeguard the health of the Jamat. 

Members of the Jamat who have already registered to attend Jamatkhana through the Jamatkhana registration site do not need to take any further action - the registration system will assign spots and inform Jamati members as spots become available.  

Only Jamati members with allocated spots will be able to attend Jamatkhana. Walk-ins will not be permitted at this time.

Virtual Storytelling Program - March Registration

We are pleased to launch the Virtual Storytelling Programme in Ontario for children aged 3 to 8 years old! The aim of the Storytelling Programme is to support young children’s language, literacy, cognitive and social development under the platform of Library and Learning Center. Our vision is to inculcate qualities that help them understand their culture and Tariqah from an early age.

Volunteer Opportunity: Social Media Content Specialist, Ismaili Centre, Toronto

The Ismaili Centre, Toronto has a growing social media presence, including Facebook, Instagram, and other channels.

The Social Media Team at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto is seeking a Content Specialist, who would be responsible for researching relevant content topics, drafting engaging social media content, and collaborating with the Social Media Coordinator to review and refine the content.

Temporary Suspension of Jamatkhana Ceremonies in Ontario

In response to new public health regulations announced by the Government of Ontario, Jamatkhana ceremonies will be temporarily suspended at the following Jamatkhanas after the completion of evening ceremonies on Friday, December 25, 2020:

  • Barrie  • Belleville  • Brantford  • Guelph  • Halton  • Kitchener  • London  • Niagara Falls  • Oshawa  • Pickering  • Sudbury

This suspension applies to all morning, evening and weekend ceremonies - with no exceptions.

In light of the escalating rates of COVID-19, please follow all public health guidelines, including:

  • Refraining from social gatherings with those outside of your immediate household  • Not traveling outside your community for non-essential reasons  • Wearing a mask when leaving the home or when coming into close proximity with those outside your household  • Always maintaining a distance of 2 metres from others not in your household, and  • Frequent handwashing or sanitizing

Also, please remember:

  • If you are feeling unwell, see your doctor or call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000  • If you need information or support, call the Jamati Access Line at 1-888-536-3599

Temporary Suspension of all Jamatkhana Ceremonies at Hamilton Jamatkhana

In response to new regulations announced by public health authorities, Jamatkhana ceremonies will be temporarily suspended at Hamilton Jamatkhana after the completion of evening ceremonies on Sunday, December 20th, 2020.

This suspension applies to all morning, evening and weekend ceremonies - with no exceptions.  All other Jamatkhanas continue to operate as before until further notice. Members of the Jamat are respectfully requested not to travel between regions to attend Jamatkhana in order to protect the health and safety of all Jamati members.

Jamati members are strongly encouraged to follow public health guidelines and not to have social gatherings with anyone outside their household.

When leaving your home, please be very careful in properly masking, keeping at least a 2-metre distance from others and using hand sanitizer often.

Temporary Suspension of all Jamatkhana Ceremonies in York, Windsor and Peterborough Jamatkhanas

In response to new public health regulations announced today by the Government of Ontario, Jamatkhana ceremonies will be temporarily suspended at the following Jamatkhanas after the completion of evening ceremonies on Sunday, December 13th, 2020:

  • Richmond Hill
  • Unionville
  • Windsor

Additionally, Jamatkhana ceremonies at the following Jamatkhana are being temporarily suspended after the completion of evening ceremonies on Sunday, December 13th, 2020 due to increasing COVID-19 risks in the region as well as due to many murids travelling from other jurisdictions to attend this Jamatkhana:

  • Peterborough

This suspension applies to all morning, evening and weekend ceremonies - with no exceptions.  All other Jamatkhanas continue to operate as before until further notice.

As per Government health and safety guidelines, the Jamat is reminded to refrain from travelling from Toronto, Peel, York and Windsor to other regions to attend Jamatkhana. This is to minimize risk and protect the health and safety of all Jamati members.

Jamati members are strongly encouraged to follow public health guidelines and not to have social gatherings with anyone outside their household.

When leaving your home, please be very careful in properly masking, keeping at least a 2-metre distance from others and using hand sanitizer often.
