About Us

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Program has been very successful within the Ismaili community for the past 30 years. The Ismaili Youth Group, Greater Vancouver was established in 1986 and has helped the youth to achieve their personal goals, overcome challenges and develop skills in an effort to be well-rounded individuals.

This program is designed for participants aged 14-24 years and consists of 3 levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold. To find out about the requirements for each Award level  click here.

To celebrate the achievement of each Award level, participants receive a pin and a certificate at a special Awards ceremony. The Bronze Award ceremonies are held locally in Vancouver, while the Silver Awards are presented by the Lieutenant Governor of BC at Government House in Victoria. The Gold Awards are presented by a member of the British Royal Family.

One of the benefits of this program is that participants in the BC and Yukon Division are eligible to receive 6 external credits from their school. Participants may apply through their school to receive 2 credits for Grade 10 (upon completion of the Bronze Award level), 2 credits for Grade 11 (upon completion of the Silver Award level) and 2 credits for Grade 12 (upon completion of the Gold Award level).

The Ismaili community is proud to have hosted 21 Bronze Award ceremonies, 3 Silver Award ceremonies and 1 Gold Award ceremony at the Ismaili Center, Burnaby. We were fortunate to have HRH Prince Andrew present the Gold Awards, making it the first time a member of the Royal Family visited the Ismaili Center in Canada.
