Canada's 18th Prime Minister, Rt. Honourable Brian Mulroney Passes Away (1939-2024)

The 18th Canadian Prime Minister, The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney passed away on February 29, 2024. The Ismaili Community offers its heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Prime Minister Mulroney officially opened the Ismaili Centre Vancouver - the first Ismaili Centre and purpose-built Jamatkhana in North America - in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam in August 1985. He has been a friend of the Ismaili community and a supporter of the institutions of the Imamat over many years.

In a special video commemoration for the 35th anniversary of the Ismaili Centre Vancouver, former Prime Minister Mulroney shared his memories of the historic opening ceremony as well as his reflections on how the Jamat can continue to shape the future of Canada.

Le 18e premier ministre canadien, le très honorable Brian Mulroney, est décédé le 29 février 2024. La communauté Ismaili présente ses sincères condoléances à sa famille et gardera le premier ministre Mulroney dans ses pensées et ses prières. Que son âme repose dans la paix éternelle.

Le premier ministre Mulroney a officiellement ouvert le centre Ismaili de Vancouver en présence de Mawlana Hazar Imam en 1985. Il s'agit du premier centre Ismaili et du premier Jamatkhana construit à cette fin en Amérique du Nord. Il a été un ami de la communauté Ismaili et a soutenu les institutions de l'Imamat pendant de nombreuses années.

Dans une vidéo spéciale commémorant le 35e anniversaire du centre Ismaili de Vancouver, l'ancien premier ministre Mulroney a partagé ses souvenirs de la cérémonie d'ouverture historique ainsi que ses réflexions sur la façon dont le Jamat peut continuer à façonner l'avenir du Canada.

Prince Rahim Meets the President of the Kyrgyz Republic

Balmoral Aid and Support Services (BASS) is a registered not-for-profit agency dedicated to connecting newly arrived refugees and immigrants to Canada with community supports and resources to help establish themselves and to flourish in their new home. BASS works closely with the extensive and rigorous volunteer and staff structures of the Future Ready Initiative (FRI) and the Ismaili Council for Canada.

The purpose of this position is to provide strategic leadership and management of Career Ready, Future Ready (CRFR), ensuring the successful delivery of program objectives and outcomes. The Director will lead and manage the CRFR project, aimed at enhancing skills and employability among underrepresented populations in Ontario.

Please note: this is an anticipatory position and is contingent upon funding. The hiring for this role will proceed subject to confirmation of program funding. This is a contract position (1 year), with the possibility of extension.

Prince Rahim today met the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, at the World Bank’s headquarters in Washington, DC.

They discussed the decades-long development partnership between the World Bank and the various institutions of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Africa, South and Central Asia and the Middle East, as well as potential areas of future cooperation, including around climate action, a priority shared by the World Bank and the AKDN.

The World Bank and AKDN have collaborated in the fields of industry, infrastructure, microfinance, clean energy, water supply, health and nutrition, among others. The partnership has extended across most of AKDN’s principal geographies, with particular recent emphasis on collaboration in Afghanistan.
