Temporary Suspension of all Jamatkhana Ceremonies in Edmonton Jurisdiction

In response to the high and increasing rates of COVID across Alberta, all Jamatkhanas in the Edmonton Jurisdiction will be temporarily suspended after evening ceremonies on Saturday, April 17, until further notice.

The following Jamatkhanas are impacted:

  • Edmonton Headquarters

  • Belle Rive

  • Edmonton West

  • Red Deer

This suspension applies to all morning, evening and weekend ceremonies.

Given the escalating rates of COVID-19, please continue to closely follow all public health guidelines, including:

  • No gatherings for social reasons with anyone outside of your immediate household

  • Continue frequent handwashing/sanitizing

  • Wear a mask when leaving the home or when coming into close proximity with those outside your household

  • Maintain a distance of 2 metres from others not in your household

Let’s continue to protect each other and especially the vulnerable members of our families and the Jamat.

Also, please remember:

  • If you are feeling unwell, see your doctor or call HealthLinkAlberta at 8-1-1

  • If you need information or support, call the Jamati Access Line at 1-888-536-3599

We know that this is a challenging time for all of us, and we pray for the health and safety of the Jamat and look forward to the resumption of Jamatkhana ceremonies. We will continue to monitor the situation, and, working closely with our public health professionals, to keep the Jamat informed of any new developments.

For regular and important updates, please continue to check the Al-Akhbar, the iiCanada app, and the regional TheIsmaili Facebook and Instagram pages. Members of the Jamat are reminded only to use official sources for communication and to refrain from circulating messages from private sources.

We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to all our volunteers.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

A Plea For Vigilance

We are now over the year mark of living with COVID-19, and many of us are feeling ‘COVID fatigue’. The pandemic has caused a fundamental change in all our lives. The only constant we’ve had is the constant of the unknown. While vaccines have brought a renewed sense of hope, new variants of the virus are spreading, and they are moving quickly. Cases and hospitalizations are back on the rise. As such, we urge Jamati members to remain vigilant and continue to follow public health guidelines.

Keep physically distancing, wear a mask, wash your hands often, stay home if you are feeling unwell at all, avoid any unnecessary out of province travel, and try to limit your number of close contacts as much as possible.

Now is not the time to let our guard down. We must continue to take care of one another, by remaining vigilant.

The Jamat is also requested to please get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible. Eligibility criteria is available at Alberta.ca.
