2014 World Partnership Walk - May 2, 2014
“Amongst the great common denominators of the human race is a shared aspiration – a common hope – for a better quality of life.” – Mawlana Hazar Imam
Of the few times that citizens of the world work together, one of the common goals that unites us is the aspiration to make the world around us a better place. In the year 2000, the World Bank set the Millennium Development Goals, in order to completely eliminate extreme global poverty, defined by the number of people living on less than $1.25 per day, by the year 2030. The good news is that we have done well so far! We have cut this number down by half, in less than half the timeline! But there is still a lot more to be done, and Canada can play a big part.
The World Partnership Walk, run by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada, is one of the ways that Canadians can take steps toward eliminating global poverty. This year, on our 30th Anniversary, it’s your chance to help take the Walk to the next level! Become an ambassador of the Walk and spread this message to fellow Canadians and let them know why we need their help.
The Aga Khan Foundation is completely non-denominational and supports long-term, sustainable programs in education, civil society, healthcare, and rural development. The unique thing about the Walk is that 100% of donations go directly towards the work. Additionally, the Canadian government is a strong partner of the AKFC’s projects and leverages this contribution! With all this great support, there’s no reason for Canadians not to get involved! Their dollar will go very far!
As Ambassadors of the Walk, you can spread the word by:
- Talking to your friends, neighbors, colleagues and co-workers about the Walk and the AKFC
- Sharing videos and links from our website: www.worldpartnershipwalk.com
- Asking friends to like our Facebook page to learn more: www.facebook.com/wpwalk
- Inviting fellow Canadians to the Walk so they can see it in action!
