The Toymaker of Kashka-Suu: A Father’s Story

Recycled wood, a handful of screws, and a few tools – sometimes it doesn’t take much to transform a father’s relationship with his child. Abutalip and his wife Sanabar hatched the idea to make toys for their three children after attending parenting classes before their son Nursalih was born.

Initiatives such as the Kashka-Suu parent resource centre in the Kyrgyz Republic promote health and wellbeing by helping families access better care and information. Read the full story here.

A World Partnership Walk thank you, from Cairo to Canada

Khaled Khalida, an artisan from Cairo, Egypt, learned his craft as a child while making deliveries for his father’s workshop. Fascinated by the intricate black and white Islamic geometric motifs embossed with mother-of-pearl, he quickly became a master of the art.

Today, his company produces 150 different wooden objects – such as decorative boxes, backgammon sets, and ornamental chairs – that are exported around the world.

World Partnership Walk is proud to present some of Khaled’s mother-of-pearl keepsakes as tokens of appreciation for our top fundraisers. Learn more about World Partnership Walk’s fundraiser recognition program here.

Crafty for a Cause: How One Family Fundraises Together

For Farah Caflisch, participating in World Partnership Walk runs in the family. Brought onboard by her mother, Farah now works together with her own children to harness their interests and creativity to raise funds to fight global poverty.

Some of their fundraising activities include selling watermelons and samosas. Farah’s go-to fundraiser on a summer day is a popsicle sale: all you need is a big cooler and a hot spot!

For many, finding the perfect fundraiser can be challenging. What’s most important is using your skills and talents to make change your own way!

The first step is to register for World Partnership Walk today. Our Fundraise My Way toolkit has everything you need to get started on your own fundraiser!#WPWalk #FundraiseMyWay #AKFC

Cheers to volunteers, the heartbeat of World Partnership Walk

Across Canada and throughout Africa and Asia, volunteers are the key to our success. Their contributions of skills, talents, and time ensure that we can continue transforming lives around the world.

Salome Mulandi, for example, who lives in Mlolongo, Kenya, began volunteering as a social worker when she saw her four-year-old daughter benefitting from new improvements to her daycare.

This Mother’s Day, invest in mothers around the world!

Zakirova Gul’dana is a mother of three in the remote community of Daroot-Korgon, Kyrgyzstan. During her first two pregnancies, she relied solely on traditional practices and limited resources and knowledge.

Leading up to the birth of her most recent child, she was able to attend parenting classes in her community. Learning about breastfeeding, the birthing process, early childhood development, and the important role fathers play, Gul’dana and her family felt prepared for the arrival of their son. Watch Gul’dana’s story here.

Thanks to the support of thousands of Canadians like you, women like Gul’dana have the resources and knowledge they need to raise healthy families.
