Through World Partnership Walk, We Are Building a Legacy!

Over the past 35 years, together we have built a legacy through World Partnership Walk. This national movement is supported by 6,000 volunteers and attended by 40,000 Canadians in 10 cities every year. Together, we have raised over $100 million. Thanks in great part to the Jamat, the Walk is now the largest public movement in Canada dedicated to fighting global poverty!

Through the Walk, the Jamat has engaged its fellow Canadians in practicing the values and ethics by which we live our lives. Year after year we engage business leaders, workplaces, and places of learning outside the Jamat. As a result, our spirit of leadership and volunteerism has had significant impact, both here in Canada and around the world.

This year, we invite you to join us in celebrating the 35th anniversary of World Partnership Walk! Register online.

World Partnership Walk - Where do the Funds go?

Almost every country in the world, rich or poor, faces some form of malnutrition among its vulnerable populations. The cost of poor nutrition is high: premature death, stressed health systems, and a drag on economic progress. But with Canadian support through World Partnership Walk, rural communities all over Africa and Asia are becoming healthier.

In Mozambique, where 2 out of 5 children are malnourished, Canadian support has helped train communities to cultivate nutrient-rich crops and prepare nutritious meals. In the village of Pithola, Aga Khan Foundation Canada brought together 11 community members to form a nutrition group. Usinginexpensive ingredients, like coconut, peanuts, and dried cowpea leaves, group members learned how to make a nutritious porridge for their families. Sharing with their neighbours what they learned, the group has been able to tackle malnutrition in their village.

One person’s trash is another World Partnership Walk Ambassador’s treasure!

This summer, the KW United World Partnership Walk team from Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, took the catchphrase “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” to a new level. Working together, the group cleaned closets, decluttered garages, and snagged great donations for their big garage sale … all to boost their fundraising!

According to Team Captain Amin, “There are tons of ideas on the Walk website. Just read and go with it. Lots of team members showed up and pitched in to make it successful.”

Fundraise My Way activities like KW United’s garage sale make an impact locally – by building strong teams and engaging communities – and globally by fighting poverty in Africa and Asia.

The Toymaker of Kashka-Suu: A Father’s Story

Recycled wood, a handful of screws, and a few tools – sometimes it doesn’t take much to transform a father’s relationship with his child. Abutalip and his wife Sanabar hatched the idea to make toys for their three children after attending parenting classes before their son Nursalih was born.

Initiatives such as the Kashka-Suu parent resource centre in the Kyrgyz Republic promote health and wellbeing by helping families access better care and information. Read the full story here.
