World Partnership Walk: Mother's Day Match

Mother’s Day is just around the corner! Now is the perfect time to step forward with the World Partnership Walk in support of women and newborns around the world. This is also your chance to have your support go twice as far when you donate or fundraise this weekend.

Meet Mufida, the first and only midwife in her community, located 34 kilometres from Gilgit, Pakistan. Before she opened her clinic, there was no facility for pre-and postnatal care in her community in rural Pakistan. In this region of Pakistan, travelling to neighbouring towns can be challenging due to cost, lack of transportation options, and poor roads, as well as social norms that limit women's independence to travel alone. “When [pregnant women] faced complications, it was not possible to go to the city,” she says, adding that many pregnant women died due to a lack of medical care.

Thanks to support from Canadians like you, Mufida received midwifery training and equipment and was able to open a clinic to serve the women in her village. She now provides care for at least five antenatal mothers and assists in five deliveries every month.

This Mother’s Day, you can help support women and newborns in accessing necessary healthcare services by registering and fundraising for the Walk.

This year, thanks to a generous matching gift from an anonymous donor, the funds you raise for the Walk from May 10 to May 15 will have double the impact. *

Visit the World Partnership Walk website to register today! Together, we can make the world a brighter place for mothers everywhere.

Only donations made online using World Partnership Walk from Wednesday, May 10 to Monday, May 15, 2023, ending at 11:59pm PT │ 12:59 MT │ 2:59pm ET will be considered eligible, up to a maximum amount of $50,000. Funds raised will be added to your city’s fundraising total and not individual or team fundraising totals.

World Partnership Walk: Support Health Workers Around the World

As the World Partnership Walk week rapidly approaches, we want to show you how your contributions support communities worldwide.

Hidden in the mountains of Pakistan, Miraj, the only lady health visitor in her community, treks up challenging terrain to provide prenatal and postnatal care to over 700 households. Some families live at altitudes reaching 2,300 metres, yet Miraj knows she must help those who can’t access life-saving services.

“At times I have to walk a couple of hours in around eight inches of snow during winters, as the patients cannot come to the clinic. But I do it anyway as saving lives is a service to humanity.” – Miraj.

Through the Walk, the generosity of the Jamat has helped some of the world’s most vulnerable communities in Africa and Asia to fight poverty. Funds raised from the Walk provide training and renovations to local health facilities in Pakistan. It’s thanks to this support that Miraj received professional and technical training, equipping her to successfully deliver over 100 healthy newborns by herself.

Together, we can support more projects like this. We invite you to register and fundraise for the Walk campaign to show the world we are there for them when they need us most.
