Diamond Jubilee Programs

The Jubilee Programs & Activities Task Force for Canada in partnership with the Council for Canada and ITREB Canada are pleased to launch a number of Diamond Jubilee Program platforms over the upcoming year. Below is a summary of the programs that will be implemented. Details on program dates in each region will be available through the links on this page and in the weekly local digital Al-Akhbar.

Various Diamond Jubilee programs and platforms have been established for all age groups and inclusive to all members of the Jamat and their families.

We encourage the Jamat to fully participate in these various program offerings to commemorate and reflect on this very special and historical time.

Diamond Jubilee International Education Themes – Upcoming Programs

Over the Diamond Jubilee year, programs and activities within six education themes will be provided to the global Jamat. The themes will be implemented bi-monthly and the full schedule of themes as well as educational content and readings are available on the Diamond Jubilee website

Theme #1 will be implemented during August & September:
Celebrating the Grace of the Jamatkhana and Ismaili Centres in our lives

Engagement Seminar:
Spaces of Worship & Jamatkhana

This multi-media interactive seminar will focus on situating the JK within diverse Muslim spaces of worship and gathering. Each region will have a schedule of seminars and further information will be available in the local Diamond Jubilee Bulletins and electronic Al-Akhbar.

Video, Chai & Chat Session:
Ismaili Centres: Vision & Aspirations

The session will include a short (13 minute) video viewing on the beautiful Ismaili Centres located around the world. Following the video, participants will engage in a reflective discussion moderated by a facilitator.

Youth in Harmony (ages 13+)

Youth in Harmony is a creative expression of devotion program with a performance component and participatory components to engage its targeted audience of youth and young adult segments (ages 13+ years). The purpose of the Youth in Harmony program is to allow a contemporary articulation of tradition and foster creativity and new explorations. Its use of the Western choral form will inform the explorations and imbibe our traditional devotional texts including Ginans, Qasidas and Zikr with harmony.

Diamond Day (ages 18-24 years)

Diamond Day is a program platform for the post secondary segment (ages 18-24 years) with the purpose of bringing together youth in this demographic to celebrate and build momentum for the Diamond Jubilee as well as to reflect on what this moment means for each individual and the Jamat as a whole. Its key areas of focus through a series of program offerings throughout the Jubilee year will be:

  • To put the notion of pluralism into practice
  • To integrate Din & Dunya as seamlessly as possible
  • To foster a sense of community and belonging
  • To assist individuals within this segment in their journey, wherever they happen to be in that journey at the moment

This program platform will provide an opportunity for youth to engage in activities, discussion and celebration during the Diamond Jubilee year.

Young Adults (ages 25 -40 years)

The Young Adults program platform seeks to provide all young adults (ages 25-40 years) with an opportunity to come together and share in their reflections and queries related to this significant time in history. Through a series of programs throughout the Jubilee year, there will be an opportunity to:

  • Reflect on the Diamond Jubilee as an opportunity for a journey of personal search and inspiration for each murid
  • Create opportunities to engage in a guided interactive dialogue related to relevant themes of Diamond Jubilee
  • Exploration our faith and in particular its practice in contemporary society

The format of the programs will allow for the sharing of information, networking, discussion and discourse and social engagement and discovery. Family members and partners of other faith backgrounds are welcome to participate.

Family Reflections

Family Reflections is a self-run, inter-generational initiative to enable and inspire families to have conversations about the Imam’s impact in their lives and to express their insights through creativity and art. Each month during the Diamond Jubilee year, families will be able to access a user-friendly toolkit, for all age groups, with a theme based activity and content to inspire and deepen understanding and connection to our Imam. Please visit the Family Reflections website to register and access the monthly activity!
