This was taken at the Aeonium Arboreum in Coronado, California, 2020, as I walked after a spring rainfall. The natural symmetry and texture of this plant amazed me. I spent some time enjoying its beauty and capturing the image. Later, I realized that it was so naturally beautiful that I left the image unedited. As I contemplated further, the concentric spiral of petals reminded me of the human desire to endlessly focus on the future, rather than be in the present moment. In contrast, by taking a step back, one can appreciate that the flower’s beauty is also in its whole, here and now, as Allah’s ongoing creation.
