Sheliza Jamal is an educator, speaker, and Equity and Inclusion Coach. She is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she studied the impact of arts in education, leadership in social change organizations, education entrepreneurship, as well as innovation and educational policy. Sheliza also holds an Honors BA in Theatre and a B.Ed from York University. She is currently completing her PhD at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (part of the University of Toronto) in the Department of Social Justice Education.
An educator at heart, Sheliza is the founder and lead facilitator at Curated Leadership. She is also an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with over a decade of experience in both public education teaching as well as designing and implementing programs and services. Sheliza's expertise and passion align with her work, which is aimed at rectifying inequitable outcomes for under-served communities. With a background in theatre performance and education, she often uses theatre-based techniques to engage participants in dialogue about oppression and empathize with each other.
As the world navigates the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheliza has ensured that conversations around equity remain at the forefront. She has offered free workshops within the South Asian community geared towards addressing racism. She also started a popular Instagram series entitled “Curated Conversations”, where she often talks to guests about ways to build inclusive communities.
The causes that Sheliza is working towards can be challenging, but are very important. She looks forward to continuing her efforts in the years ahead.
