This year, the Toronto Jamat will commemorate Navroz and the rich diversity within our Jamat through dinner and devotional recitation. 

Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 9 when all Toronto Jamatkhanas will host Navroz commemorations. Multi-faith family members are warmly invited to join us for this joyful occasion, where we will enjoy delicious dinner together as #OneJamat.

During the following weekend, on Friday, March 15, we invite you to join us for an evening dedicated to devotional recitations, setting the tone for Navroz.

Khidma in Focus

Khidma In Focus is an initiative by the Ismaili Council for Edmonton to showcase our heroes of community service and seva. The series will roll out on Instagram and Facebook in April 2024. 

We are accepting applications for individuals and groups of up to five (5) people. You can nominate yourself!

 To qualify, please ensure all of the below questions are completed in detail. 

Our evaluation criteria will be weighted as follows: Impact and Contribution (Weight: 30%), Commitment and Consistency (Weight: 25%), Innovation and Creativity (Weight: 15%), Leadership and Collaboration (Weight: 20%), Adaptability and Initiative (Weight: 10%), Community Impact Testimonials (Bonus: 10%).

AKHS Commemorates Expansion of Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu

As the leading private hospital in the region, Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, has consistently expanded its presence and range of services since its establishment in the 1950s by Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah, proactively catering to the evolving needs of the community.

The hospital, operated by the Aga Khan Health Service (AKHS) Kenya, was first established as an 18-bed dispensary and maternity home in 1952, and grew into a 46-bed facility by 1985. Today, it is an ultra-modern, 123-bed, state-of-the-art institution that provides integrated healthcare services, offering advanced clinical programs in cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, critical care, and maternal-child health.

Speech by Princess Zahra at the 2024 Convocation of the Aga Khan University

The Aga Khan University hosted a Global Convocation ceremony on Saturday, February 17, bringing together its graduating classes in Kenya, Pakistan, Tanzania, Uganda, and the UK. The event was presided over by Princess Zahra, in which she addressed the graduating class.

Princess Zahra Visits Kenya

This past week, Princess Zahra paid a six-day visit to Kenya, where she toured AKDN projects and met with key leaders from across the country.

Her visit commenced with the 40th global convocation ceremony of the Aga Khan University, a beacon of inspiration and achievement. At the jubilant 20th anniversary celebrations of the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, Princess Zahra joined students, faculty and esteemed guests in celebrating two decades of achievements, growth and impact. In Kisumu, Princess Zahra commemorated the expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital which will now offer critical health services previously unavailable to the community.

Commemorating Yawm-e Ali

Yawm‐e Ali commemorates the birthday of Hazrat Ali, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), and, in accordance with the Shia tradition of Islam, the first in the line of hereditary Imams from the progeny of the Prophet. This year, Yawm-e Ali was observed on January 24.

On the occasion of Yawm-e Ali, Ismaili Muslims renew their commitment to the principles that Hazrat Ali exemplified, particularly the ethics of care, compassion, generosity, integrity, tolerance, forgiveness, brotherhood, and service to others.

We invite you to join us for an intriguing session at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto where Dr. Daryoush Mohammad Poor will speak on the topic of "Responsible Leadership: Insights from The Teachings of Imam Ali".  The session will take place in the Social Hall on Saturday, March 2. Doors open at 7:30pm and the session will start promptly at 8:15pm

About the speaker:

Dr. Daryoush Mohammad Poor is an Associate Professor and the Interim Head of the Constituency Studies Unit at the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS). His first monograph, Authority without Territory: The Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili Imamate (2014) is a fresh theoretical engagement with contemporary institutions of the Ismaili imamate. His most recent IIS book, Command and Creation: A Shi'i Cosmological Treatise, is a Persian edition and English translation of Muhammad al-Shahrastani's Majlis-i maktüb (2021). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK and Editor of the Ismaili Heritage Series.

This type of harassment can have serious emotional consequences, is never acceptable, and can result in legal action.

If you know of someone who is being cyberbullied, please show support and compassion to the victim.

Let’s all speak up when we see such unacceptable behaviour. Bullying thrives in environments of silence.

As brothers and sisters, let us protect those who are vulnerable by promoting empathy, kindness and inclusion in all of our interactions with each other, in person and online.
