Canadian Jamat Household Survey: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 2022/23 Canadian Jamati Survey?

The Council for Canada conducts a Jamati Survey on a regular basis to develop an accurate and up-to-date profile of the Canadian Jamat. The survey covers a range of topics, including social, academic, economic and health status.

Why conduct a Canadian Jamati Survey?

A summary of the data collected through the Canadian Jamati Survey is used to:

  • Provide reports to Mawlana Hazar Imam on the status of the Canadian Jamat
  • Plan for programs and services that meet the needs of the Jamat
  • Provide a benchmark of the overall Jamat against which progress can be measured
  • Help anticipate the needs of the Jamat and ensure a strong and vibrant community in the future
Who is eligible to complete the 2022/23 Canadian Jamati Survey?

The survey is open to all Canadian households with one or more Ismaili household members. International students and workers, refugees, as well as those who reside in Canada regardless of their legal status, are also eligible to participate.

Does my family/household have to participate? Why is our participation important?

All households are encouraged to participate in the Survey. Maximum participation is important in order to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the data collected.

How long does the survey take to complete?

The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete for a household of four. The survey may take longer if you have more individuals in your household.

How is my family/household’s privacy and personal information protected? How do we know our information is safe?

The Council for Canada takes your confidentiality seriously. Data collected during the survey is kept confidential and used only for statistical analysis. The data collected will not be traced back to individuals or households.

How is confidentiality secured when the survey is completed online?

Data collected from the survey is securely protected. All data is encrypted and stored with controlled access only. The survey is designed to be confidential - responses will not be traced back to individuals or households.

How is my family/household’s information safe if we don’t have a secure login?

Data from the survey will only be accessed in the aggregate, and not at the individual level. Data will be accessible only to authorized Council for Canada personnel, with controlled access, who require the data to fulfill their duties.

Will the information provided by households be shared?

Individual household responses will not be shared with anyone. Summary statistics collected through the survey may be accessed by authorized Jamati boards and portfolios to plan their programming. When sharing summary statistics, no household can be identified by the given data. The survey is designed to be confidential so responses will not be traced back to individuals or households.

My family/household already completed a registration last year. Why are we being asked to complete another one? How is this different?

This survey is designed to provide summary reports to Mawlana Hazar Imam and to help the Jamati institutions gain an updated and current view of the Jamat’s social, demographic, academic, economic and health status. It is important for this information to be as current as possible. As a result, the Survey is carried out on a regular basis to ensure its relevance and accuracy.

Whom do I contact if I require assistance in completing the survey?

Individuals that are unable to complete the survey online, or may not have access to do so, are requested to seek assistance of family members to help with the survey. This will help to ensure that privacy is maintained. You can also call the Access Line at 1-888-536-3599 should you have any questions.  Please note that volunteers may only be able to help you in a limited capacity due to confidentiality concerns.

In what languages is the survey available?

The survey is available in English and French.

What is the difference between a dwelling, a family, and a household?

Residence refers to a set of living quarters.

Family refers to a group of two or more persons who live in the same residence and are related to each other by blood, marriage, common-law union, adoption or foster relationship.

Household refers to any person or group of persons living in a residence and may consist of any combination of one or more single individuals or families living together in the same residence.

My family/household doesn’t have time to complete the survey in one sitting, Can I save it and complete it at another time?

If you are unable to complete the survey in one sitting, you may print and complete the survey with your household and then update your responses online. You can also save the survey online by clicking the “save and return later” button found at the bottom of each survey page. You will then be emailed a survey link which can be opened and completed at a time which fits your schedule best.

Can my family/household complete a paper survey instead?

The 2022/23 Canadian Jamati Household Survey can only be completed online. In past years, some surveys could be completed in paper form and submitted in Jamatkhana. However, because of current restrictions, paper forms will not be offered this time.

We mistakenly answered one of the questions incorrectly. Can we change our answer? Can we submit another survey?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to update your responses. We recommend you review your responses to all questions before submitting the survey. You are able to review your responses at any point in the survey by going to previous pages and clicking the back icon/button. Please only submit the survey once for your household. If a second survey is submitted, your household will be counted twice and will impact the integrity of the statistics.
