IVC100 Commemorative Pin Design

October 24, 2019 | Canada

We had over 100 excellent submissions from across the country and would like to sincerely thank every Jamati member that took the time and effort to submit their design. The amount of artistic and creative talent in our Jamat and our love for all volunteers showed through in all of the entries. We know that this was a labour of love for many who submitted designs. The outpouring of interest and passion through this exercise has been truly inspiring, reflecting the depth of the Canadian Jamat’s commitment to voluntary service. For this, we offer our deepest gratitude.

We would also like to thank Afaq Ahmed Karadia & Adeel Maaneshia, artists who assisted in the slight modification of the design to optimize its appearance on a pin.

The selection committee for the IVC100 Commemorative Pin Design consisted of:

  • Retail Opertions Executive and Production Design Specialist, Aga Khan Museum - Shoheb Gwaduri
  • Member for Arts and Culture, Council for Canada - Khatira Saiem Ali
  • Deputy Communications Coordinator, Council for Canada - Amina Lalani
  • Member for Ismaili Volunteers, Council for Canada - Mo Jessa
  • Project Manager for IVC100 Commemoration - Shahinda Raiyanni
  • Past Director for Volunteer Operations, Council for Canada - Nadirshah Khoja
  • Director for Volunteer Operations, Council for Canada - Salim Amlani

We offer special congratulations to the artists who submitted the selected design - Shikiba Azizi and Shugofa Azizi, of Headquarters Jamatkhana, Toronto.

The selected design:

About the selected design:
The inner circle represents a loop that shows the continuity of volunteer services in our Ismaili community

  • There are 10 outer circles, each circle representing a decade, 10 decades that represent 100 years of seva
  • There are 10 stars around each outer circle, with 100 stars in total, again which representing 100 years of uniformed volunteer service

About the designers:
Shikiba Azizi (37) and her sister Shugofa Azizi (24) were born in Kabul, Afghanistan and moved to Canada in October 2010 with their family. Shikiba holds a Degree in Literature from Kabul University in Afghanistan and after moving to Toronto, she pursued her dream to attend the School of Fashion Arts in Toronto. Shugofa graduated from Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology where she discovered and developed her passion for fashion. The sisters both participated in Jubilee Arts and had the chance to display their artwork at the Regional and National Jubilee Arts Festival.

"We can simply say that the idea of this design came up from the love and passion that we have for our diverse history of volunteerism and the strong tradition of serving within our community.  In commemorating this milestone, we remind ourselves of the hard work, dedication and endless service of all volunteers in the past 100 years, and for many generations to come. We are blessed to be a part of this holy service."  - Shikiba & Shugofa Azizi

The selected design will be developed into appropriate memorabilia for the IVC Centenary, and will be made available in the coming weeks.

Thank you to all involved in the process, and to the Canadian Jamat for its ongoing support.
