It’s a common misconception that older adults need less sleep, but many get fewer hours due to insomnia and various health problems, including sleep apnea and heart trouble. Researchers found older adults are more likely to take longer to fall asleep, wake up more frequently throughout the night, and spend more time napping during the day. Did you know that a study from the American College of Cardiology suggests that consistently getting proper sleep significantly reduces chances of dying from cardiovascular disease or cancer? It also suggested that eight per cent of all deaths from any cause could be attributed to poor sleep patterns.
Please join us in the South Jamatkhana foyer on Wednesday, June 21 from 11am to 2pm for our next Ismaili Seniors Centre (ISC). Amin Thawer, Director of Clinical Services and Education at Peak Medical Group, will talk about sleep, including the importance of quality sleep, common sleep issues and concerns, and resources available. After the talk, enjoy a hot lunch and games with your friends.
Tickets are $10 each and will be available for purchase from Azim Jivraj at South Jamatkhana or Nizar Bhaloo from Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June 18. Limited tickets are available and will not be sold at the door.
