The Jamat is encouraged to be vigilant and cautious to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of fraud. Most recently, an article published by the Montreal Gazette warns the public of a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) email scam making its way to individuals across Canada about a possible tax return. If you receive unsolicited emails such as this one, please do not respond, and delete the email immediately.

Also, some Jamati members have received telephone calls from individuals who falsely claim to represent the Canada Revenue Agency and suggest that a payment is required. If this happens to you, do not give out any payment information. If you wish to confirm the legitimacy of the call, you may contact the CRA directly.

For more information, refer to the RCMP website during this month where you will find tips on keeping you safe from scams including identity theft, phishing, and credit and debit card fraud.
