Jamatkhanas in Canada: Architecture, Identity, Community

Description

The Jamatkhana is the cornerstone of community life for many Ismaili Muslims, embodying values of Islam that foster volunteerism and care for others while nurturing faith and facilitating meaningful dialogue. It is often the place in which spiritual lives blossom and where lifelong friendships are formed.

Beyond its role as a gathering space for prayer, learning, and connection, the Jamatkhana integrates thoughtful architecture with environmental harmony amidst an array of social, educational, cultural and civic activities.

Jamatkhanas in Canada: Architecture, Identity, Community is a special photographic showcase of 50 Jamatkhanas across Canada, from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast. The exhibition highlights the architectural beauty and significant contributions of Ismaili Muslims to Canada's landscape over the last five decades. The exhibit also features other notable Canadian projects like the Global Centre for Pluralism, the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat, and the Aga Khan Garden.

The exhibition will launch at Richmond Jamatkhana on Sunday, June 9, and will run until Saturday, June 15. The exhibition will then move to Vancouver Headquarters Jamatkhana.
