  • 211 Alberta - An essential service that helps Albertans find the right resource or service for whatever issue they need help with, at the right time. 211 is available 24/7 by phone, text and chat. The service is free, confidential and available in multiple languages over the phone.
Health Resources
Physical, emotional, cognitive, and mental well-being. Resources to prepare for support and services that may be required in the future to ensure a healthy future.
  • 811 Health Link - A telephone service, which provides free 24/7 nurse advice and general health information for Albertans.

 

 

  • Coverage for Seniors - Provides coverage for medical needs, such as prescriptions drugs, diabetes supplies, ambulance services, home nursing care, chiropractic services and clinical psychological services.

 

 

  • My Health - Check your symptoms, learn more about a health condition or medicine. Find doctors, programs, services and facilities. Access your health records online.

 

Home Resources
The ability to age in place in one’s own home and community, and to make changes to the home to support one’s needs as they age.
  • Calgary Kerby Centre - Shelter - Safe and secure accommodation to men or women leaving an abusive family relationship, advocacy, referral, short-term housing and the necessities of daily living, case worker, and follow-up services.

 

 

  • Edmonton Greater Edmonton Senior Housing - Largest provider of subsidized seniors’ housing in Alberta, and a registered charity providing friendly, affordable and secure housing and services to seniors in Edmonton.

 

 

  • Edmonton Seniors Home Supports Program - Referral service that gives seniors referrals to screened service providers which offer snow removal, yard help, housekeeping. home repair and maintenance, personal services, and moving help.

 

 

  • Seniors Adaptation and Home Repair Program (SHARP) - Allows seniors to use their home equity to remain in their homes and maintain their independence, apply for a low-interest home equity loan to cover repairs, adaptations, and/or renovations to their residence.
Transportation Resources
Access to and modes of transportation to consider as one ages.
  • Calgary Fair Entry Program - Provides low income seniors yearly transit pass, home and yard maintenance support, house cleaning, snow removal, and minor repairs to help seniors live securely in their home.

 

  • Calgary Seniors Resource Society - Provide information, social support and assist while connecting seniors to the services and resources they need, when they need it.

 

  • Edmonton Care for a Ride - Provide Safe Transportation in Edmonton for Seniors, Children, and anyone who requires extra support. A for-profit company which offers subsidies for low-income seniors.

 

  • Edmonton Dedicated Accessible Transit Service (DATS) - a shared-ride public transportation service providing door-to-door public transportation service for Edmontonians who cannot use regular transit for some or all of their travel needs, due to a physical or cognitive impairment.

 

  • Edmonton Drive Happiness - A registered, not for profit organization providing door-thru-door, assisted transportation services to seniors with reduced mobility and who experience barriers in using public transportation.

 

 

Finance Resources
State of one’s finances and sources of income as they age. Resources to help make legal and financial decisions, financial planners, allowing someone else legal authority to manage one’s finances, etc.
  • Affordability Action Plan Affordability payments of $600 over 6 months are coming soon to help Albertans struggling with the rising cost of living as part of the Affordability Action Plan.

    Seniors and families with children under 18 can apply for their payments online starting January 18, but can get ready now by signing up for a verified Alberta.ca Account.Anyone receiving monthly benefits through AISH, Income Support, Alberta Seniors Benefit or services through Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) will get their payments automatically, but will need to apply for additional payments if they have kids under 18.Apply from January 18 to June 30, 2023.

 

 

 

  • Calgary Legal Guidance - Elder Law Program - Support for older adults to understand their legal rights and empower them to stay independent, legal assistance, powers of attorney, personal directive, estate administration, wills and estate planning, adult guardianship and trusteeship, and elder abuse.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Money Mentors - Credit counselling and debt consolidation agency for Albertans, promoting financial literacy and helps Albertans to get out of debt, manage their money, and plan for retirement.

 

 

  • Special Needs Assistance for Seniors - Provides financial assistance to eligible seniors with low-income toward the cost of some appliances, and specific health and personal supports.
Social Resources
Resources to help support one’s social life as they get older and contribute to general well-being and quality of life allowing seniors to live in security, enjoy good health and continue to participate fully in society.
  • Alberta Caregiver Readiness Supports - Helpful resources for caregivers, including strategies and tips that can help them understand their role in supporting the person they are providing care to while maintaining their own health and wellbeing.

 

  • Calgary Carya - Older Adults Programs - Counselling servies for older adults such as family relationship guidance, connecting seniors to community support and resources, increasing financial resiliency, understanding and response training for signs of elder abuse, and volunteer opportunities

 

  • Calgary Community Connect YYC - Provides affordable phone, video or in-person counselling within 3 business days to those living in Calgary and Alberta-wide

 

 

  • Calgary Daughter on Demand - Provides assistance with everyday errands to seniors and those requiring extra help while recovering from surgery or illness.

 

  • Calgary Focus on Seniors - Provides opportunities for Community involvement, friendship building within small group activities, and personal growth and volunteering.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Edmonton ElderCare - Provides the only community-based day programming for seniors in the city situated in public centres, allowing seniors to remain in the community, where they can continue to enrich our society for as long as possible.

 

  • Edmonton Get Connected Guide - Produced by the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council, the guide offers an overview of community touchpoints that can help seniors get connected in their communities.

 

  • Edmonton Meals on Wheels - A local non-profit and registered charitable organization that provides home-delivered meal and food services to a diverse mix of people.

 

  • Edmonton Seniors Abuse Help Line (24/7) - Provides confidential, non-judgmental, and short-term crisis intervention, emotional support, and resources to those who are experiencing or concerned about someone else experiencing elder abuse.

 

  • Edmonton Seniors Association of Greater Edmonton (SAGE) - Services that promote socialization, intellectual stimulation, skill and information acquisition, enhance the safety and well-being of older persons who are, or who may become, isolated, disadvantaged or at-risk in the community.

 

  • Edmonton Seniors Centre - Telephone-based social group for seniors offers social and health programming, free of charge, and provides seniors opportunities to socialize, learn new skills, and stay connected.
