De-Stress
Stress is a normal part of life, and not all stress is bad. Sometimes, it can improve our focus and motivate us to do our best, such as competing in a sport. When stress is allowed to build without recovery, it can lead to health issues. Stress can make us more susceptible to problems like headaches, poor sleep, high blood pressure, chest pain, frequent infections and anxiety.
Stress can also cause us to make poor decisions or react in ways we wish we hadn’t, leading to problems with our relationships and work.
For all these reasons and more, it’s essential to have tools to reduce our stress and help us recover. Practices that help us focus on the present moment (mindfulness) can help reduce stress. Mindfulness practices can balance stress and improve our physical, emotional and mental health. These practices calm us down and make us aware of our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. When we understand how we feel, we make better choices. Managing stress is something we need to work on daily to stay healthy. “[The Healthy Minds Program app] is NOT simply a mindfulness app. While it includes mindfulness, it is based on research that identifies four key pillars of well-being that each need to be trained to establish enduring flourishing. It is the only app that has chosen domains of well-being to cultivate based upon modern scientific findings, including short mini-podcasts that provide the science associated with specific practices, as well as practices themselves. This harnesses two major modalities of learning that we know from neuroscience are required to firmly induce enduring change."
