Born in Madagascar, Shama took her first steps in Canada at age 5, and her love of art followed soon after when she began oil painting at the age of 12. Her art was featured at several vernissages, and in 1995 Shama won the Governor General's Medal for the best academic performance.

In her post-secondary journey, Shama pursued architecture, with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from McGill University and a Master of Architecture with a specialization in Project Management from the Université de Montréal. Her pursuit of excellence continued as she was awarded first prize in a national competition for a university project on emergency response to natural disasters. In 2003, she was a finalist for the Medal of the Royal Institute of Architects of Canada (IRAC).

Shama’s professional career took her from the private sector, where she worked for various design and project management firms, to the federal public service in 2007. Since then, she has been involved in short-, medium- and long-term strategic office space planning for various federal departments and agencies, as a public servant for the Department of Public Services and Procurement Canada since 2013. In 2014, she received a recognition award for her special efforts, collaboration and performance in exceptional situations demonstrated in the CFIA's consolidation office project in Montréal.

Alongside her professional career, Shama has been involved in the renovation of the jamatkhanas within the IMARA group, which has been a source of personal and professional enrichment.
