Skills and Employment Counsellor - EPB Ontario

The Skills and Employment Program (SEP) of the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board for Ontario is looking for a dynamic SEP counsellor to help members of the Jamat enhance their skills and find gainful employment. The ideal candidate must have solid human resources experience, be able to generate job leads through networking with external organizations and business owners, plan and deliver employment-related workshops, and attend job fairs. The successful candidate must also be familiar with social media and relevant employment resources.

Registration for Junior Achievement Program is Now Available

Are you a student from grades 5 to 10 who wants to learn more about financial concepts? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run your own small business? Do you have a good idea of which skills will be critical for long-term career success? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you will not want to miss this event!

The Economic Planning Board for BC has partnered with Junior Achievement Canada, a well-established non-profit financial literacy organization, to deliver a special day of programming for Ismaili youth. A recognized consultancy conducted research that found that participants are:

  • 50% more likely to open their own business.
  • Earning 50% higher average income.
  • Three times more likely to hold senior or middle management positions.
  • 25% less likely to be unemployed.
  • Three times less likely to spend more than they earn.

The following half-day seminars will be available at no cost:

Business Basics for Grades 5 and 6

  • Work together in teams to plan a small business start-up.
  • Make key business decisions, from pricing to staffing.
  • Practice job interviews.
  • Experiment with different methods of production through a hands-on activity.
  • Create and present effective advertising campaigns.

Dollars with Sense for Grades 7 and 8

  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of broad range of financial concepts and practice.
  • Use critical thinking skills to make sound financial decisions.
  • Communicate understanding of a range of financial and money management concepts.
  • Apply and express acquired financial knowledge in oral and written forms.

Economics for Success for Grades 9 and 10

  • Understand how every opportunity is a stepping-stone to success.
  • Realize the financial constraints and demands of independence.
  • Develop employability and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Identify resources needed to support a life-long career journey.
