Milad-un-Nabi Commemoration and Live Webcast - Ismaili Centre, Toronto
To commemorate Milad-un-Nabi, the Council for Ontario cordially invites you to a keynote address at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto.
The speaker will be Dr. Yousef Casewit, Chair of Islamic Studies at the University of Chicago Divinity School. He will speak on the topic:
The Names of the Prophet: Pre-Modern Approaches to Understanding the Life of Muhammad.
In what ways did pre-modern Muslims express their love and longing for the Prophet? The talk will highlight the variety of expressions of prophetic love, especially among scholars of al-Andalus and the Maghrib. These ranged, from highly mystical commentaries upon the names of the Prophet (may peace be upon him) and his supreme station, to praise poems and eulogies dedicated to his blessed sandals.
This program will be held on Saturday, November 16 at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto. Registration will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the program will commence at 8:00 p.m.
