Anam Feerasta - painter

Anam Feerasta is an emerging artist who lives and works in Toronto. She was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan and relocated to Canada in 2015. Painting predominantly in acrylic and oil paints, Anam explores aspects of identity in the context of abstract, universal truths that for her, are grounded in ideas of love, oneness, spirituality and devotion. Her practice also involves examining the different barriers, both external and internal, that prevent identity from being fully realized. Anam’s work combines aspects of figuration and abstraction to create layered, textural compositions that allude to her own struggle to build an independent identity and to live life on her own terms.

Anam completed her Bachelor of Arts from McGill University and worked as a consultant for three years before switching to a full-time art practice. She is currently completing her BFA in Drawing and Painting at OCAD University. Anam is the recipient of the 2020 Kendra Jaal McCleskey Memorial Scholarship.
