Samidha Joglekar is a Canadian-born and raised vocalist of Maharashtrian heritage. She is known for her Indian Classical (Hindustani), Marathi language, Jazz and cross-cultural performances and recordings.

Drawn to music from a young age, Samidha began her vocal training at age eight with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Concurrently, at age ten, she began studying Hindustani (North Indian Classical) singing with her Guru Shri. Narendra Datar. A recipient of prestigious grants from the Ontario Arts’ Council and Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Samidha has been fortunate to study in India with renowned master teachers including the late Vidushi Veena Sahasrabhudde and Dr. Prabha Are.

Samidha’s versatility as a singer comes from her experiences with different styles and traditions of music and her ability to apply this training in different musical contexts.  These experiences required her to find new and unexpected ways to apply her musical knowledge and voice.

For over ten years, she sang with the acclaimed Toronto-based Indo-Jazz ensemble TASA, and is on their albums Soma and Alchemy.  She was featured in the song Sahil Tak produced by Nitin Sawhney for Coke Studio India. Her singing can be heard in documentary and feature films, including Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children. She has collaborated with many accomplished Canadian musicians including Ravi Naimpally, Harry Manx, Esmerine, George Koller and Sundar Vishwanathan who have all featured Samidha’s voice on their albums.

Samidha is connected to the Ismaili community as a multi-faith family member. In 2016, she was honoured to be invited to perform with a Global music ensemble at Aiglemont for his Mawlana Hazar Imam’s 80th birthday celebration.

Presently, Samidha performs with the Canadian ensemble So Long Seven. She has an album of original devotional songs (Bhajans) called Kirtan Karlo, available on major streaming platforms and is currently developing an album of her own original and classical music.

In addition to her work as a vocalist, Samidha is a board member with the Raag Mala Music Society of Toronto.  She has a Master’s degree in Audiology and works in health policy and regulation with the College of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.
