illume 2023 will feature 18 different sports, including several new and exciting games like Pickleball, eChess & eSports, as well as classic favourites like Volleyball, Basketball, and Ball Hockey.
Along our traditional Men's and Women's categories, we are excited to introduce a youth division for the first time, inviting those aged 13-16 to compete. We encourage everyone, including our multi-faith family members, to try out!
In the event that a sport (individual or team) does not meet the minimum number of teams / players, the Illume Organizing Committee may reserve the right to eliminate the sport from the festival.
All of the rules and regulations outlined on this website are subject to change at the discretion of the Illume Organizing Committee for the purpose of improving the quality of play, and increased participation. We appreciate your cooperation in advance.
Ages
- Youth (born between June 1, 2006 and May 31, 2010): Boys and Girls
- Open and Women’s (born before May 31, 2006)
- Masters (born before May 31, 1983)
Regions
- Athletes may try out regionally for several sports; however, they may only compete in one sport at the National Festival, with the exception of Ball Hockey. Since Ball Hockey is not offered at the Inernational Festival, an athlete will be able to play both Ball Hockey and another international qualifying sport should they qualify for both at the regional level. In the event of a timing conflict at the National Games, the athlete must prioritize the international qualifying sport. A failure to do so will result in a negative evaluation as it relates to international team selection.
- Athletes may compete in multiple events within their sport (e.g., singles and doubles tennis).
- Athletes must be a resident of the region for which they are qualifying and must be able to provide proof of their registration address at their first tryout (government ID, utility bill or bank statement) upon request.
- Exceptions include:
- An athlete is a member of a district Jamat, in which case they can participate with a nearby region after obtaining the approval of that region’s Regional Qualifying Team;
- An athlete is a student attending University/College outside their region, in which case they may elect to qualify in EITHER the region in which they reside OR the region in which they are attending University/College. The athlete must provide proof of registration at their University/College at their first tryout
